NEW YORK designer Prabal Gurung has proved he is one to watch after being unveiled as chief designer for the relaunch of the ICB collection in Europe and the US. The label, formerly designed by Michael Kors and then Viktor + Rolf, stopped distributing in the West in 2002 – but is now set for a relaunch.
“The potential of the ICB brand in the US and globally is a priority for Onward Kashiyama,” Akinori Baba – president of Onward Kashiyama, which owns ICB – said. “Gurung as a maverick international designer combined with our established business in Japan provides a solid foundation.”
The relaunch under Gurung will see the label arrive in the US and Europe in autumn 2012 and 2013 respectively – and it seems the young designer is thrilled at the opportunity to bring an original take to the brand.
“[I hope to] bring a fresh perspective to ICB’s already rich history,” Gurung told WWD. “They have such an enormous business in Asia but the US and European markets are untapped.”
